Mission
Safeguard Island County's Financial and Material Assets by maintaining strong internal controls; ensure equity and transparency; adhere to established financial policies and procedures; comply with all legal fiscal reporting requirements; and provide professional, effective, responsive and courteous customer service.
Customers
The Citizens of Island County, Island County Commissioners, county departments and agencies, junior taxing districts, outside entities, and employees.
Services
Perform all accounting functions and processes to prudently manage Island County assets; provide comprehensive financial system management and support; and prepare and issue reports in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Washington state statutes, board resolutions, and reporting requirements that are set forth by the Washington State Budgeting, Accounting and Reporting System (BARS).
The Financial Management Division maintains Island County's high standard of financial excellence by providing quality and sound financial management processes and procedures which includes General Ledger maintenance, reconciliation, and reporting; accounts payable and disbursements; payroll processing and disbursement; and processing, disbursement, and reconciliation of all other accounting transactions including various Junior taxing districts.
The Financial Management Division coordinates compliance, internal controls, internal auditing, grant accounting, and other accounting procedures with departments, other county taxing districts, and outside agencies.
The Financial Management Division accomplishes its tasks through the implementation of industry best practices that have been proven successful, and approach their work with confidence, competence, dedication and commitment.
