All candidates for all offices must be an elector of their district. 

To File for office by mail:

Use the Declaration of Candidacy Form (link above).  Declarations may be received by mail in the Auditor's Office beginning Monday, May 3, 2021.  All declarations must be received in the Auditor's Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021.  Candidate filing fees are not refundable, even in the event of candidate withdrawal.

To File for office by email:

Use the Declaration of Candidacy Form (link above).  Declarations may be submitted by email to:  Elections@islandcountywa.gov.  All declarations by email must be received during Candidate Filing Week only.  Email submissions received prior to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 or after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 are invalid.

To File for office by fax:

Use the Declaration of Candidacy Form (link above).  Declarations may be submitted by fax to: 360-678-2326.  All declarations by fax must be received during Candidate Filing Week only.  Fax submissions received prior to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 or after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 are invalid.

To File for Office In Person:

You may file for office in person at the Elections Office in Coupeville or at the Camano Office on Camano Island during normal business hours.  In person candidate filing is available only during Candidate Filing Week.  No early or late submissions will be accepted.

To File for Office Online:

As mandated by state statute, Online Candidate Filing will be available on the this website beginning 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 and will remain available until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021.  The link will not be available outside of the established candidate filing period.

To Withdraw :

In accordance with RCW 29A.24.131, candidates may withdraw their declaration of candidacy at any time before the close of business on the Monday following the last day for candidates to file. In 2021, that day is Monday, May 24. The notice of withdrawal must be in writing. No filing fee may be refunded to any candidate who withdraws under this section.

There is no withdrawal period for declarations filed during a special filing period.

Lot Draw:

Lot drawings to determine ballot order for all positions in which the Island County Auditor is the filing officer will take place on Friday, May 21st at 4:30 p.m. in the Elections Office.  The lot draw is open to all members of the media, political parties, campaigns and the general public.
