[ARCHIVED] Speed Limit Evaluation Project

Speed Limit sign

Island County began reviewing in 2022 the existing posted speed limits county-wide to provide an engineer's recommended speed limit, based on data analysis and land use within the areas of review.

Historically data points (including the 85% and 50% percentile), Average Daily Traffic (ADT), collision history and engineering, judgement have provided the recommendation for a posted speed limit. Our current project also included development density, pedestrian, and bicycle use.

This site was created to allow for public review and feedback on the Island County Countywide Speed Limit Evaluation project.

Four area-specific meetings are scheduled for the public to view print-outs of findings and have an opportunity for an in-depth conversation on Island County policy and procedure, and data points collected to complete the project. The meeting locations and times are:

South Whidbey: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 State Highway 525, Freeland.

Camano Island:  4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the multipurpose room located next door to the Island County Camano Annex building.

Central Whidbey:  4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the Coupeville Rec Hall, 901 NW Alexander St., Coupeville.
