This presentation is focused on what to do after an emergency occurs and how to save lives before first responders arrive.

Staying Connected- Alerts and Warnings
The Department of Emergency Management recommends that residents signup for local emergency alerts through AlertSense. Individuals can sign up for alerts here and can choose how they recieve alerts. Alerts can be sent through text messages, emails and smartphone notifications. In some circumstances, pre-recorder phone messages may be used to relay information. You can also download the AlertSense smartphone application on both Iphone and Android devices. Look up the MyAlerts application in your device's app store and follow the instructions to set up your location and alert preferences.
Island County DEM also recommends our Island County Preparedness App, available on both Iphone and Android app stores. The app allows individuals and families to create an emergency plan, learn more about hazards and preparedness, and the location of important services such as hospitals, grocery stores, and fire stations in Island County. Boating/Vessel Safety
The Deception Pass Power Squadron has noticed an increase in the amount of individuals engaging in boating activities around Island County. Individuals should be familiar with boating safety and guidelines when operating a boat (kayaks and paddle boards included) in the Puget Sound and it's surrounding waters.
