DEM is the County's coordinator for emergency training.  DEM coordinates with local, state and federal agencies that sponsor a wide range of individual and group training courses.  These courses come in a variety of formats including self-study and traditional classroom instruction.  Most courses are offered free of charge to qualified students.  Some courses are eligible for college credit.

It is time for the third annual Island County Community Preparedness Expo! Local Subject Matter Experts will there to help you prepare for any kind of emergency and disaster. Some of the topics include:

  • Local Hazards and Where to find information about them
  • Preparing your Family for Emergencies
  • Building you Emergency Kits and Supplies
  • Emergency Communication
  • Utility Safety
  • Emergency Preparedness for Water Systems
  • Emergency Food
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Prepared tips for people with special needs
  • Preparing your pets for disasters
  • Fire Safety
  • Stabilizing your steep slope to prevent landslides
  • Preparedness for older community members
  •  Protecting yourself after a disaster
There will food available onsite provided by "Bite" Food Truck (They have delicious food!)
Drills and demonstrations will occur throughout the day as well as after the Expo.
