Assessment & Healthy Communities
As one of the ten essential functions of a Public Health Department, the Assessment and Healthy Communities (AHC) Section is committed to improving and maintaining the overall health of Island County residents.
AHC develops and implements strategies for the assessment of priority public health issues in Island County communities. Assessment is the systematic collection, analysis, and reporting of information about the health of a community. We must know the needs and strengths of a community to identify solutions to improve the community's health.
Our public health professionals do this by engaging in grant writing, strategic planning, and the development of collaborative partnerships to develop, fund, and implement community health projects/programs in the county. They also assess the health of the people and the environment in Island County by collecting and analyzing data and conducting community health assessment activities.
In addition AHC provides staff support to the Island County Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB) to identify and to address priority health issues. Through CHAB they advise the county Board of Health on health policy issues and provide support to the Board in the development of issue papers and health policies for Island County.________________________________________________________________________________
