Health Services Director - Keith Higman, MPH
Before being appointed Director of the Island County Health Department in April 2008, Keith Higman served as its Environmental Health Director since 1998 and has worked in the field of environmental health for over 12 years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Washington University, Huxley College of Environmental Studies and a Master in Public Health from the University of Washington, School of Public Health and Community Medicine. Prior to entering the field of public health, he served as a Research Ecologist for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and held a variety of positions in the areas of natural resource management and water quality.

lifelong Washington State and longtime Whidbey resident, Brad attended Whitman College and the University of Washington, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1977 and completed his family practice residency in 1980. Having enjoyed 30 years as a family practice doctor in Seattle near the UW, he retired briefly before joining Island County Health Department. He also greatly enjoys playing keyboards in several local bands and spending time with his wife Marilyn, his junior high school sweetheart.
