​Homeowner Septic Training (HOST) 201

Homeowners may become certified to inspect their own septic system if they:

  • Have a Conventional Gravity system and inspect it every three years OR a Conventional Pressure system and inspect it annually.
  • Do not live within the Penn Cove, Maxwelton, or South Holmes Harbor designated sensitive areas. To find your parcel's history, location, and system type,  click HERE. To review your property inspection history, click HERE.
  • Complete a self-study program with the referenced resources
  • Attend an in person exam and pass with a 70% or higher score.

Step 2: Watch the WA-DOH HOST 201 VIDEO

Sections of the HOST Video will be included in the exam.

Step 3: Review the QUESTION BANK

Exam questions will be selected from this question bank

Step 4: REGISTER and attend an in-person exam.

  • Exam space will be limited to 25 individuals and is first come first serve.

  • Submit payment ($52.00) and completed registration form by mail or at the Public Health Counter in Coupeville. Parcel and As-built records are available on the Public Portal
  • Refunds will not be issued for missed exams.
