  October 8th Planning Commission Meeting Cancelled

The October 8th Planning Commission meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum. All items on the October 8th agenda will be discussed at the next regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting, on Monday, October 22nd. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

 

  Event Regulations Draft 2.0 Now Available for Review

With the adoption of the new regulations for wineries, cideries, breweries, and distilleries, the first phase of the Rural Lands Regulatory Updates is complete. The second phase consists of updating Island County Code provisions regarding events held in the rural area. 

After the Planning Commission reviewed the first draft of the new regulations for events at their meeting on Monday, September 24th, staff incorporated their comments into a second draft of the regulations. To view the regulations, pelase click the following link:

  Recently Adopted - Updated Housing Element

The Board of Island County Commissioners adopted the updated Housing Element at a public hearing October 2, 2018. This update replaces the current Housing Element of the Comprehensive Plan in its entirety and will serve as a guiding document and resource for the County’s approach to housing.

  Recently Adopted - Code Updates for Wineries, Breweries, Cideries, and Distilleries

Regulatory updates related to Wineries, Cideries, Breweries & Distilleries were adopted September 4, 2018, during a Board of Island County Commissioners public hearing. To view the final adopted code, please visit the project page at:  www.islandcountywa.gov/Planning/Pages/D17_RuralLands.aspx

Further code changes related to commercial activities in the rural area, specifically events and home industries regulations are in the very early stages and will be coming to the Planning Commission for discussion soon.

   Draft Freeland Development Regulations

The draft (version 2.0) of the new Freeland Zoning Code is available for review.  The adoption of this code is anticipated for this summer and will include a rezone for all properties within the Freeland Non-Municipal Urban Growth Area (NMUGA).  For a map of the impacted area and draft code documents, workshops and opens house materials, visit our project page:

  • C-27-18, signed by the Board of Island County Commissioners 3/20/18 improving the Island County Code's alignment with State Forest Practices requirements.
  • C-110-17signed by the Board of Island County Commissioners 11/7/17 establishing the Island County Annual Update Docket.
