Island County Public Works - Roads Division has the responsibility of engineering, construction, maintenance and administration of the Island County Road System as defined in RCW 36.75 - 36.88. This includes all 525 miles of County Roads (approximate). It does not include any of the State Routes or the City of Langley and Town of Coupeville streets. A maintenance agreement is in place with the City of Oak Harbor that covers a few streets.
The Roads Department is one of the County's largest departments. The daily tasks are numerous and can vary greatly in nature. The one common point associated with all of the Roads Department activities is the County Road System. RCW 36.82.070 specifically restricts the use of any Road Funds to road related projects only.
This website is designed to help you better understand the various functions of the Roads Department and assist you with any related issues. We hope that you will find this helpful.
