Social distancing is critical to physical health, both for individuals and to protect the health of our community and our frontline responders. But mental health professionals suggest that it's important to continue to make safe social connections at this time. Safe connections might include: regular phone calls, group texts, FaceTime, email, going on walks with household family members, time with a family pet and more. It is estimated that 1 in 5 Americans experience a mental illness. One-half of all chronic mental illness begins by the age of 14; three-quarters by the age of 24. Nearly 1 in 25 (10 million) adults in America live with a serious mental illness.
From time to time we are all in need of extra support. Many people do not know where to turn, or know what resources are available during these times. Also, there can be a stigma around asking for help and receving services.
