Island County Treasurer

*** YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE ***

The Island County Treasurer's Office in Coupeville reopened to the public June 1 after closing temporarily March 18 due to the emergency created by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Safety and health precautions are in effect. Masks are required for entry to our office, and we will practice limited entry and 6' distancing for the safety of staff and our customers. Meetings must be arranged in advance. Thank you for your understanding.

We encourage you to consider paying electronically - refer to "Paying Your Taxes Online" under "Property Taxes in the menu at left.

2020 Property Taxes are certified and statements were mailed February 20.  Any unpaid balances remaining from prior periods are delinquent.  Balance information is also posted on this website (see the Make a Payment link, above).

The due date for property taxes in Island County was April 30, 2020 and any second half balance is due October 31 - there were (and are) no extensions to these statutory deadlines.

The property taxes you pay to the Island County Treasurer are redistributed to the State of Washington to fund public schools, the special purpose districts that provide your services (hospital districts, school districts, cities, fire districts, parks and recreation districts, diking districts, drainage districts, the library district, emergency medical services, etc.), and Island County (roads and public services).  These districts require tax revenues to continue operations and the provision of services to County residents.  Additionally, many have outstanding bond issues with debt service payments due June 1.  Please see attached letters from State Treasurer Duane Davidson, the Association of Public Hospitals, Camano Island Fire & Rescue, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, and the Coupeville School District for additional financial information.

If you do not receive a tax statement by mail, request that one be emailed to you by completing this online form.  Failure to receive a statement by mail does not absolve the taxpayer of the responsibility to make timely payment per RCW 84.56.050.  Checks received without appropriate interest and/or penalties included will be returned to the payer.
