Canvassing Board

The county canvassing board is the entity governing the process of examining ballots or groups of ballots, subtotals and cumulative totals in order to determine the official returns of an election. The canvassing board certifies final election results.

Members of the county canvassing board are the county auditor, who is the chair, the prosecuting attorney, and the chair of the county legislative authority.  

The county canvassing board may delegate certain tasks to the auditor or the auditor's staff.

Signature Verification

The Island County Canvassing Board has delegated the task of signature verification to the Island County Auditor and the county auditor's staff.

Signature Verification training is provided by the Washington Secretary of State's Office in conjunction with the Washington State Patrol.

The Auditor, Elections Supervisor and Voter Registration Coordinator participated in updated Signature Verification training provided in June 2024, January 2025 and October 2025.

Commissioner Bacon participated in the training in January 2025.

Prosecuting Attorney Greg Banks participated in the training in October 2025.
